HCMCT Manipal Hospital Launches Special Oncology OPD in Haldwani for Cancer Patients

|haldwani July 3, 2026: Delhi-based HCMCT Manipal Hospital has launched a special Oncology Outpatient Department (OPD) in Haldwani to provide expert cancer consultation and treatment guidance to patients in the Kumaon region. The OPD will be available on the first and third Saturday of every month, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, at Kushwaha ENT Care & Diagnostic Centre.

The clinic will be led by Dr. Surendra Kumar Dabas, Chairman, Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Centre and Onco Robotic-Assisted Surgeries, North West Cluster, and Dr. Pankaj Pandey, Head of Department and Consultant, Surgical Oncology & Robotic-Assisted Surgery. The specialists will offer consultations, treatment planning, and guidance for patients suffering from various types of cancer.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), India is expected to witness a significant rise in cancer cases in the coming years. Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, breast cancer, lung cancer, oral cancer, and cervical cancer remain among the most common forms of the disease. Lack of awareness and delayed screening, particularly in smaller cities and semi-urban areas, continue to result in late-stage diagnoses, making treatment more challenging.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Surendra Kumar Dabas said that early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes. He noted that many people ignore the initial symptoms of cancer, allowing the disease to progress to advanced stages. He added that for patients requiring surgery, minimally invasive and robotic-assisted cancer surgeries provide greater precision, faster recovery, and improved clinical outcomes.

Dr. Pankaj Pandey highlighted the growing incidence of gastrointestinal cancers—including cancers of the stomach, colon, pancreas, and esophagus—among younger individuals. He emphasized that adopting a healthy lifestyle, maintaining a balanced diet, engaging in regular physical activity, and avoiding tobacco and alcohol can substantially reduce the risk of several cancers. He also stressed the importance of recognizing early warning signs and seeking timely medical advice.

HCMCT Manipal Hospital stated that the launch of the dedicated Oncology OPD in Haldwani reflects its commitment to expanding access to advanced cancer care across India. The initiative is expected to improve early diagnosis, enhance awareness, and ensure timely specialist care for cancer patients in the region.
