The operation was carried out under the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Manjunath T.C. as part of the Uttarakhand Government’s “Mission Drug-Free Devbhoomi” and Operation Prahar campaign against narcotics trafficking.
Acting on a tip-off, the joint police team intercepted the accused near an under-construction building close to the Indian Oil petrol pump at Paschimi Kheda in Kathgodam on June 4, 2026. A total of 618 grams of heroin was recovered from their possession, leading to the registration of a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Kathgodam Police Station.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Gajab Singh (27) and Sita Ram (37), both residents of Bharatpur, Rajasthan. Police recovered 311 grams of heroin from Gajab Singh and 307 grams from Sita Ram. An electronic weighing machine and a Hyundai Aura car bearing registration number RJ-05-CC-8027 were also seized.
During interrogation, Sita Ram revealed that Gajab Singh is his younger brother and works at an RO plant in Bharatpur. Sita Ram, a taxi driver, stated that they had travelled from Rajasthan to Haldwani in a taxi belonging to their uncle. According to the accused, they planned to deliver the consignment to an unidentified person near Kathgodam Railway Station before proceeding to Mukteshwar, where Sita Ram’s in-laws reside.
Police records show that Gajab Singh has a criminal history, with multiple cases registered against him in Rajasthan under the Excise Act and the NDPS Act. Authorities are currently verifying the criminal background of Sita Ram.
The police team involved in the operation was led by Inspector Jasveer Singh Chauhan, Station House Officer of Kathgodam, and SOG In-charge Mohan Singh Saun. In recognition of the successful operation, SSP Dr. Manjunath T.C. announced a cash reward of ₹2,500 for the team.
