High‑profile sex racket busted in Ramnagar; 51 arrested, resort sealed, 10 women rescued (including one minor)

/Ramnagar — Acting under the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Manjunath T.C., a joint operation by the Special Operations Group (SOG), Anti‑Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) and Ramnagar police uncovered a high‑profile sex racket at a large resort in Ramnagar. The raid, conducted on 4 July 2026, resulted in the arrest of 51 accused and the rescue of 10 women, including one minor. One juvenile in conflict with law was taken into protection and the resort has been sealed.

According to police, the raid followed a tip‑off. Officers found women brought from other states and abroad being exploited for commercial sex. A total of 52 people were present at the venue and were found involved in acts including illicit prostitution, drinking and drug use, forcing women to perform obscene dances, and publicly throwing currency notes at them. Seized items include cartons of alcohol, bundles of counterfeit ₹10 notes, obscene material, laptops, mobile phones containing event and women‑related photos/chats, and music/sound equipment used for dance shows.

FIR and charges:

A case has been registered at Ramnagar police station under FIR no. M0A0S0‑210/2026, invoking Section 143 BNS, Sections 3/5/6 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, Section 14 of the POCSO Act, Sections 60/21 of the Excise Act, and Section 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act. During questioning, the main organiser, Umendra Kumar of Meerut, admitted arranging the party to entertain people associated with his company. Investigation revealed that about ten days earlier he contacted resort general manager Lakhendra Chaudhary to arrange alcohol, women and so‑called “extra services.” The resort was reportedly booked from 4 to 5 July 2026 for approximately ₹2.20 lakh.

Police say accused Sunil Kumar facilitated arrangements through Rahul Gupta alias Sunny, who charged ₹10,000 per woman. Forensic analysis also found that the resort’s general manager instructed staff not to record any visitor entries in the register to conceal evidence. On this basis — use of the premises for illegal activities and attempts to hide evidence — the resort was sealed. The general manager is currently absconding.

Seized items (key):

3 cartons of liquor, 1 carton of beer

24 bundles of counterfeit ₹10 notes and a wad of ₹10 notes thrown at women

Obscene material, laptops with chargers, mobile phones (containing event and women‑related data)

Music system, amplifier and sound boxes used for dance shows

Arrests and juvenile protection:

Fifty‑one persons from various districts of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and other areas have been arrested; a full list of names is available in the police release. A juvenile, Rudr Gupta (aged 17 years 9 months), was taken into protective custody.

Investigation and follow‑up:

Senior police officers — SP Nainital Dr. Jagdish Chandra, SP Haldwani Manoj Singh Katyal and Additional Superintendent/CO Ramnagar Amit Kumar — supervised the operation. Forensic examination of seized digital devices is underway, and efforts are on to arrest the absconding general manager, Lakhendra Chaudhary. Victim statements and sensitive procedures for care and rehabilitation of rescued women are being prioritised.

Police response:

The Nainital Police Media Cell called the operation a major success in the district’s campaign against human trafficking and immoral trade and urged the public to report any suspicious activity.
