Inter-District Arms Smuggler Arrested with Cache of Illegal Firearms in Nainital

Haldwani/Chorgalia, June 28: In a major breakthrough under its ongoing anti-crime drive ‘Operation Prahar’, the Nainital Police arrested an inter-district arms smuggler and recovered a cache of illegal firearms and live ammunition from his possession.

Acting on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Manjunath T.C., a joint team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Chorgalia Police, under the supervision of SP City Manoj Kumar Katyal and Circle Officer Lalkuan Amit Saini, was conducting a checking operation near the MVR Gate in Chorgalia on June 27.

Based on a credible tip-off, the police intercepted a suspicious individual near the road leading to Galfar Gate. During the search, officers recovered eight country-made pistols and ten live cartridges concealed in his bag.

The accused has been identified as Riyasat (30), son of Rais Ahmad, a resident of Nakulia village under Sitarganj police station in Udham Singh Nagar district. He has been booked under Section 3/25 of the Arms Act at Chorgalia Police Station.

Police officials said that further investigation is underway to trace the source of the illegal weapons, identify the supply network, and verify the accused’s criminal background and possible links with other offenders.

The operation was carried out by Sub-Inspector Nidhi Sharma, SOG In-charge Sub-Inspector Mohan Singh Saun, Head Constables Kundan Singh Kathayat and Trilok Singh, and Constables Bhupendra Jyeshtha, Bharat Bhushan, and Shailendra Singh.

Recognizing the successful operation, SSP Dr. Manjunath T.C. announced a cash reward of ₹2,500 for the police team in appreciation of their commendable work.
