Transport Nagar Traders Protest Property Tax Decision, Demand Immediate Reversal,

Haldwani, September 10 (Correspondent) – The Transport Nagar Traders Association has strongly opposed the Haldwani Municipal Corporation’s decision to impose property tax on shops located in Transport Nagar. Association President Pradeep Sabsewal stated that traders, already grappling with severe economic distress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and disruptions in the mining sector, would face added financial burden due to this tax.

The traders have appealed to the Municipal Corporation to immediately withdraw this decision. They emphasized that imposing the tax before the business environment stabilizes is impractical. The association has also warned of large-scale protests if their demand is not met.

Secretary Khemanand Sharma cautioned that enforcing the property tax without traders’ consent is unacceptable. Traders pointed out that they already pay registry and NOC fees and that the new tax would double their financial load.

The protest and meetings included many traders along with municipal and community leaders. The traders urged the municipal authorities to understand their plight and end this economic pressure promptly so that business can recover and thrive again.
