Haldwani ,,,Devbhumi: The Matar Gali Traders Association organized a protest at DK Park today against the electricity tariff hike effective from September. The protest was led by Daljit Singh Dalli, President of Matar Gali Traders Association, and Govind Singh Bagwal, Metro President of Devbhumi Vyapar Mandal.
The traders stated that electricity rates for commercial consumers currently range between ₹8 to ₹10 per unit when hidden charges are included. They emphasized that consumers in the energy-rich state are already paying much higher domestic and commercial electricity rates compared to other states, putting heavy financial pressure on businesses.
The electricity department’s plan to introduce a new tax called Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment (FPPC) was strongly opposed by the traders. They said this additional tax would increase the burden on consumers further and demanded an immediate rollback of the rate hike.
The protest was supported by prominent members including Daljit Singh Dalli, Govind Singh Bagwal, Atul Gupta (Secretary of the Association), and other traders who expressed their united opposition to the electricity department’s move.
