Nainital Police Busts Inter-State Professional Theft Gang Through Expert Policing3 Shrewd Thieves Including Professional Thief Maqsood Arrested from Banbasa; Jewellery Worth ~₹22 Lakh Recovered, Vehicle SeizedPress NoteBrief Incident DetailsOn 21.12.2025, complainant Navneet Sharma s/o Ramesh Chand Haritwal, resident of Eco Town Phase 1 Block F, Haldwani Mukhani, reported at Mukhani Police Station that between 20:00 hrs on 19.12.2025 and 10:30 hrs on 21.12.2025, unknown persons broke through the neighboring shop’s wall and stole 20-25 kg of silver jewellery, 300-400 grams of gold jewellery, and ₹20,000-25,000 cash from his shop, Radhika Jewellers. Based on the complaint, Mukhani PS registered FIR No. 268/25 under Sections 305(A)/331(3) BNS against unknowns, with investigation assigned to SI Veerendra Chand.Police ActionTaking immediate cognizance of the theft, Dr. Manjunath TC, SSP Nainital, directed SP Haldwani Shri Manoj Katyal to form teams for swift disclosure and thorough case unraveling. Following these instructions, SP Haldwani, under the supervision of CO Haldwani Shri Amit Kumar and leadership of SHO Mukhani Shri Sushil Joshi, constituted special teams. Police reviewed CCTV footage around the crime scene, spotting suspects with a Bolero vehicle (UP31AU-5867). Teams were dispatched to various districts in Uttarakhand, Nepal border, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, etc., with informers activated. Through relentless CCTV surveillance and manual intelligence, on 04.01.2026 morning, 4 accused were arrested near Nepal border at Banbasa, Champawat district, with stolen goods. The Bolero used in the crime was deposited at Mukhani PS for further probe.Arrested Accused and Recovery DetailsAccused Basant Khatri s/o Chandra Khatri, resident of Village Daiji, PS Daiji, Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur, Nepal—from his possession: 3 gold earrings and 3 studs wrapped in white paper.Accused Tanveer Ahmad s/o Akbar Qureshi, resident of Gulbarga Kurla East, PS Chunabhatti, Mumbai—from his possession: 2 gold bangles in a white-brown chowkidar handkerchief.Accused Imran Sheikh s/o Majboor Sheikh, resident of Ajul Tola, PS Radhanagar, Sahibganj, Jharkhand—from his possession: 1 silver brick.Accused Maqsood Sheikh s/o Akbar (Gang Leader), resident of Amanat Diyara, Post Piyarpur, PS Udhwa Radhanagar, Sahibganj, Jharkhand—from his possession: 3 gold earrings and 1 silver coin wrapped in white paper.Criminal History: On interrogation, Maqsood Sheikh admitted to theft cases registered against him in Ranchi and Surat districts; details being verified from those districts.
