Public Outrage in Haldwani Over Yoga Trainer Jyoti Mer Murder Case: Sharp Criticism of Police Inaction,

Haldwani: The murder case of yoga trainer Jyoti Mer, which came to light on July 31 in the Mukhani area of Haldwani, has sparked deep outrage among the local public and social-political organizations as 19 days have passed without the arrest of the killers.

Forensic investigation revealed injuries on the victim’s neck and ribs, confirming that the murder was by strangulation. The suspects include two brothers, Abhay and Ajay, who run a yoga center and are currently absconding. The police have deployed multiple teams to capture them, but have yet to make any arrests.

Owing to police inaction, crowds have been staging protests at Buddha Park, demanding the dismissal of the SSP Nainital. Harish Rawat, founder of the “Pahadi Army,” accused the police administration of total failure, stating that the intelligence machinery is ineffective and lawlessness is spreading in the district. A young protester, Harish Kotlia, expressed his anger by shaving his head during the protest.

Social, political, youth, business, and women’s organizations have called for a public anger rally on August 22, demanding justice and arrest of Jyoti Mer’s killers.

Key participants at the protest included Fauji Bhuvan Pandey, Ayendra Sharma, Assistant Commandant R.P. Singh, Deepa Pandey, Kavita Jeena, and others, who questioned the police’s handling of the case and demanded assurances to the public.

This case highlights growing concerns over security arrangements in Haldwani, where increasing insecurity toward women and suspicions of protection for criminals have fueled public resentment.
