Haldwani Division Transport Department Launches Intensive Checking Campaign on New Year’s Eve to Ensure Road Safety,,

Haldwani, January 1, 2026: Following the directives of Arvind Pandey, RTO Enforcement and Road Safety, Haldwani Division, all ARTO Enforcement units, Transport Tax Officers, mobile squads, interceptors, and bike squads across the division conducted a massive checking drive on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. The campaign covered key areas including Tanakpur, Rudrapur, Khatima, Sitarganj, Bajpur, Kashipur, Ramnagar, Haldwani, Lalkuan, Kathgodam, Nainital, Bhawali, and Bhimtal.Special focus was placed on overspeeding, rash driving, and drunk driving, as per RTO Enforcement instructions. Teams carried out continuous vehicle checks late into the night on New Year’s Eve. Many drivers were found violating rules by overspeeding, driving under the influence, and rash driving, leading to strict enforcement actions.The Transport Department’s primary aim was to prevent rising accidents on New Year’s through enhanced road safety measures. Efforts ensured no inconvenience to tourists and devotees, with operations continuing late into the night. For their convenience, shuttle services were successfully operated: from Russian Bypass to Nainital, and from Bhimtal and Sanatorium Parking in Bhawali to Kanchi Dham.The department monitored fares closely to prevent overcharging, ensuring adequate vehicle availability without excess charges. Special attention was given to vehicles from other states. Under Arvind Pandey’s orders, 20 teams conducted the drive, issuing over 1,300 challans, impounding 60 vehicles, and taking action against 25 drunk drivers under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.Additionally, 175 drivers were caught overspeeding, with enforcement actions initiated. Enforcement teams have recommended license suspension for such offenders—minimum 3 months for drunk and overspeeding drivers.Divisional Transport Officer Enforcement and Road Safety, Haldwani Division, has instructed all teams to continue operations throughout the week and weekends, focusing on smooth, safe, and accident-free tourism amid increasing vehicle traffic in the division.
