Dehradun, Saturday: Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) conducted a ground inspection of the flood-affected areas in Dehradun district following the heavy rainfall on September 15 and 16. The Governor reviewed the damage caused by the downpour and assessed the ongoing relief and reconstruction efforts.The Governor first visited the Collectorate, where District Magistrate Mr. Savin Bansal briefed him about the disaster. The DM explained that as soon as the disaster alert was received, the administration promptly initiated search and rescue operations. The DM personally led the teams to the affected and remote areas, providing a detailed account of the relief work being carried out. Governor Singh commended the District Magistrate and his team for reaching out to the victims quickly and extending support. He emphasized that such natural disasters test preparedness, and authorities must learn continually to improve future responses. He directed that officials and staff demonstrating exemplary service during the disaster management should be honored to encourage their dedication.The Governor then went to Nanda Checkpost to inspect the damaged bridge. Officials reported that an alternate route would be ready within three to four days, although full reconstruction of the bridge will take longer. Governor Singh urged speedy restoration of movement to minimize public inconvenience. Some local residents met the Governor at the site and shared their concerns.Subsequently, the Governor visited the Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple, another location affected by the disaster. He gathered information from the priests and locals about the damage. Acknowledging the hardship faced by the community, he expressed confidence that government and administration efforts would soon restore normalcy. The Governor also performed a ceremonial water offering (jalabhishek) at the temple, praying for the well-being, prosperity, and happiness of the people of the state.Governor Gurmit Singh highlighted that though natural calamities are recurring challenges, coordinated efforts ensure resilience and recovery. The inspection reiterated the administration’s commitment to timely relief and rehabilitation for affected communities.
