Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh Addresses ‘Youth Against Corruption’ Seminar at Lok Bhawan,,

Dehradun, January 28, 2026: Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh participated today in the ‘Youth Against Corruption’ seminar on the causes and prevention of corruption, organized by the Vigilance Establishment, Uttarakhand, at Lok Bhawan. On this occasion, he described corruption as the biggest challenge to nation-building and called for a decisive fight against it.The seminar saw active participation from former administrative officers, retired senior officials, academics, and youth. Participants shared views on the causes of corruption, its social impact, and remedial measures. The discussion emphasized the role of youth, public awareness, transparent governance, and effective use of technology.The Governor stated that corruption is the greatest obstacle in the nation-building process, and collective efforts are essential to eradicate it. He remarked that systemic improvement is impossible until both givers and takers change their mindset.Appreciating the seminar organized by the Vigilance Department and police administration, he noted that measures like e-governance, technology, and direct bank transfers have enhanced transparency and reduced the role of middlemen. He stressed the need to increase the conviction rate against offenders.The Governor said that striking hard at corruption is mandatory to achieve the goal of a developed India by 2047 under the leadership of the Prime Minister. Describing it as a serious impediment to development, he urged its complete elimination from the roots.Praising the tough decisions taken against corruption in Uttarakhand, he highlighted strict actions in corruption cases over the past years. He appealed to the youth to make integrity, transparency, and accountability part of their lives and resolve never to tolerate corruption.Key participants in the discussion included Shri J.S. Pandey (Retd. DGP), Smt. Kumkum Rani (Retd. Judge), Shri Vipin Chandra (Retd. Chief Information Commissioner), Shri Yogesh Kumar Dev (Information Commissioner), Shri J.S. Virk (Deputy A.J./Advocate, Hon’ble High Court), and Shri D.S. Mann (Chairman, Doon International School).
