Governor Inaugurates 9th Valley of Words International Literature and Art Festival in Dehradun,,
Dehradun, Raj Bhavan —President of Uttarakhand, Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh (Retd.), inaugurated the 9th edition of the ‘Valley of Words’ International Literature and Art Festival at Madhuban Hotel, Dehradun, on Saturday. The two-day festival is hosting eminent writers, artists, and thinkers from India and abroad, who will share their insights and experiences through various interactive sessions.The inauguration began with a soulful presentation titled “Shabd Vani”, commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, which filled the atmosphere with spiritual energy.Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that such events serve as effective platforms for dialogue, creative expression, and cultural exchange. He emphasized that through the Valley of Words, Uttarakhand’s rich art, literature, and culture are attaining fresh national and international recognition.Highlighting Dehradun’s growing cultural prominence, the Governor noted the city’s increasing engagement with literary and artistic activities in recent years, which has helped it carve a distinct identity at the national level. He praised the organizers for their vision and creativity in hosting thought-provoking sessions especially encouraging for the youth.The Governor described literature as a mirror of India’s cultural heritage that guides the nation’s intellectual thought. He stressed the importance of nurturing awareness, sensitivity, and creativity among children and youth toward literature and art, underlining the need to highlight India’s cultural legacy, history, and traditions through literary platforms.Extending wishes for the successful conduct of the festival, he expressed confidence that the discussions and deliberations emerging from it would benefit society at large.Festival Director Dr. Sanjeev Chopra presented detailed insights into the festival’s objectives and structure. Distinguished guests including former MP Tarun Bansal, Hemkund Sahib Management Trust President Narendrajit Singh Bindra, P. J. S. Pannu, Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, K. B. S. Sidhu, and Anup Nautiyal, along with several literary figures, poets, and enthusiasts, graced the occasion.
