Governor and Chancellor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh Participates in Doon University’s 6th Convocation,
Dehradun,,Governor and Chancellor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh participated today in the 6th convocation ceremony of Doon University. On this occasion, the Governor honored 42 students from various faculties with gold medals, out of which 34 were awarded to female students who excelled, expressing particular delight over their achievement.Addressing the students, the Governor said that convocation is not merely a moment of receiving degrees, but the beginning of a journey from student to responsible citizen. He described it as a celebration of the hard work, discipline, and resolve of the Amrit Generation. Congratulating all the meritorious students who received degrees and medals, along with their parents and teachers, he called it not just their personal achievement but the result of parents’ sacrifices, teachers’ guidance, and Doon University’s positive academic culture.This year, the university themed the convocation around Artificial Intelligence (AI). Shedding light on this, the Governor stated that technology, especially AI, is a powerful medium of the present era, giving new direction to education, research, and work styles. In his address, referencing the chief speaker Prof. Ganesh Ramakrishnan from IIT Bombay and indigenous AI initiatives like ‘BharatGen,’ he said that developing technological solutions aligned with Indian languages and culture truly brings technology to the masses. The Governor urged the Amrit Generation youth, including those from Doon University, to harness AI ethically, humanely, and for societal benefit, innovating solutions for Uttarakhand’s geographical challenges and local problems.On this occasion, the Governor remarked that the goal of Viksit Bharat @2047 is not just economic progress but a resolve for nation-building infused with social justice, cultural pride, and human values, where youth will play a decisive role. Describing the National Education Policy-2020 as a visionary initiative, he said its aim is to create ‘job creators’ rather than ‘job seekers,’ and Doon University is making meaningful efforts in this direction. Highlighting Uttarakhand’s geographical challenges, he noted that solutions to issues like migration and disaster vulnerability lie in local innovation, self-employment, and sustainable development. Expressing special joy over the significant participation of female students, he emphasized that women’s progress is the state’s true progress.Shedding light on the true purpose of education, the Governor said it is not merely a medium of imparting information but a process of character building. He described truth, honesty, discipline, and altruism as the foundational pillars of life’s success, urging students to stay away from vices, addiction, or digital dependency and adopt ‘Nation First’ as their guiding life principle. The Governor advised students to remain connected to their roots, work for the empowerment of society’s weaker sections, and prioritize national interest above all. He expressed confidence that Doon University’s graduates, wherever they go, will serve as true ambassadors of the state and nation, enhancing India’s global stature.
