Cloudburst Tragedy in Kapkot: Family of Five Devastated, Four Bodies Recovered, Rescue Continues,

Kapkot, September 11, 2025 (Correspondent): A devastating cloudburst struck Kanalgarh Valley (Pausari’s Thaijar Tok) in Kapkot block of Bageshwar district late Wednesday night, causing widespread destruction. In this calamity, five members of local resident Ramesh Chandra Joshi’s family went missing. So far, four bodies have been recovered, while search operations are underway to trace the remaining member.

Widespread Damage in the Region

The impact of this natural disaster has also been severe in surrounding villages such as Sumti, Baishani, Nan, and Kanyalikot. Several houses have been washed away or damaged, while fields, roads, and other property have suffered serious losses. Movement has been disrupted due to mud and debris, leaving locals distressed and helpless.

Relief and Rescue Efforts

Immediately after the incident, district administration, police, SDRF, and NDRF teams rushed to the spot. Assisted by local villagers, rescue operations are continuing at full pace to trace the missing person. Officials stated that relief and rehabilitation measures are being undertaken and affected families will be provided necessary support.

The tragic loss has cast a pall of grief across the entire region. Community members and social organizations have expressed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, praying for peace to the departed souls and strength to the survivors to cope with this irreparable loss.

Villagers have urged the government to conduct geological surveys in disaster-prone areas, formulate a permanent resettlement and rehabilitation policy, and provide immediate financial assistance and secure housing to the affected families.

Prominent representatives and local leaders visited the disaster site, including Mandal President Bhupesh Fartyal, Gram Pradhan representative Harish Kumar, Youth Morcha Mandal President Govind Kapkoti, Shakti Kendra Convenor Surendra Singh Gadhiya, former Pradhan Girish Gadhiya, Mandal Vice President Ratan Danu, Bhanu Gadhiya, along with several villagers.

They assured the families that in this hour of grief, all possible assistance will be provided jointly by the administration and public representatives, and no negligence will be tolerated in relief measures.
