Workshop on Pulmonary Function Tests Organized at Government Medical College Haldwani,

The Department of TB and Chest Diseases at Government Medical College, Haldwani organized a workshop on “Pulmonary Function Tests” at the college lecture theatre on Sunday.

The workshop was inaugurated by Principal Dr. Arun Joshi and Head of Department Dr. R.G. Nautiyal along with invited guest doctors by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

During the technical sessions, experts highlighted the significance of advanced diagnostic tests for lung function assessment. Dr. R.G. Nautiyal explained the role of Spirometry in evaluating lung capacity and monitoring diseases like Asthma and COPD. Dr. Arun Achellam (AIIMS, New Delhi) discussed the FeNO Test (Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide) which measures airway inflammation, particularly useful in asthma care. Dr. Rahul Kumar Sharma (Fortis Hospital, New Delhi) elaborated on the FOT Test (Forced Oscillation Technique) for determining mechanical properties of lungs and pre-surgical evaluations. Dr. Gaurav Singhal (Senior Pulmonologist, Neelkanth Hospital) explained the DLCO Test (Diffusing Capacity of Lungs for Carbon Monoxide) which assesses how efficiently oxygen is transferred from the lungs into the blood, crucial for diagnosing pulmonary hypertension and fibrosis.

The workshop was attended by Principal Dr. Arun Joshi, Dr. R.G. Nautiyal, Dr. Neelambar Bhatt, Dr. Ritu Rakholia, Dr. Ravi Kumar Sharma, Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Dr. Arun Kapoor, Dr. Rahul, Dr. Sanjay Singh, Dr. Antara, along with resident doctors and MBBS/PG students.

Experts stressed that pulmonary function tests are vital tools for accurate diagnosis, monitoring treatment effectiveness, and improving patient outcomes in respiratory diseases.
