State Tax Department Raids Two Major Transport Firms in Haldwani,

Haldwani — The State Tax Department has launched a major crackdown on transporters allegedly evading taxes and making huge profits through illegal means. On Sunday, simultaneous raids were conducted on two major firms — Nainital Transport and Mamu Transport — in Haldwani.Acting on the directions of the State Tax Commissioner, two separate teams from Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar began the operation around 11 a.m., continuing late into the evening. During the inspection, officials thoroughly examined account books, bills, and stock records of both transport companies. A large quantity of retail and other goods were seized, along with a loaded truck taken into custody.The sudden raids created panic among the city’s transport traders, leading several to shut their establishments for the entire day.Deputy Commissioner (State Tax) Vinay Ojha stated that the action was based on complaints regarding tax evasion. The seized goods and documents are under scrutiny, and legal proceedings will be initiated against the involved firms after the investigation.Ojha further clarified that the department is maintaining a strict stance against tax evasion. Similar large-scale raids are being planned in Haldwani, Rudrapur, Kichha, and Kashipur, targeting suspicious transport companies. The department emphasized that no leniency will be shown to offenders.
