Independence Day Tennis Cup 2025 Kicks Off with Enthusiasm Venue: Optimum Tennis Academy, Chunakhan

The Kumaon-level Independence Day Tennis Cup 2025 began this morning, August 15, at 7:00 AM at the Optimum Tennis Academy, Chunakhan. On the opening day, the Independence Day celebrations were observed with great fervour by officials of the Optimum Tennis Academy, DTA Nainital, and all participating players.

Following the flag hoisting, the chief guest, Mr. D.N.S. Bisht, Inspector General of Police (Retd.), CRPF, was felicitated with an appreciation plaque by the officials.

The tournament was officially inaugurated by Mr. D.S. Rawat (Retd. Additional Commissioner of Income Tax). Vice President Vivek Agarwal, Secretary Hem Kumar Pandey, and Joint Secretary Amar Jagati jointly presented the chief guest with a felicitation plaque. Former NCERT Principal Mr. Harish Prasad was honoured as the Guest of Honour.

Singles – Below 45 Years

  • Rajat Kumar Sati defeated Mayank Arora 6-3
  • Ankur Sharma defeated Hemant Singhal 6-3
  • Manas Tiwari (Ramnagar) defeated Aditya Chaubey (Nainital) 6-0
  • Ravi Teja (Nainital) defeated Raghav (Rudrapur) 6-2

Singles – 45+ Years

  • Rakesh Bansal (Rudrapur) defeated Mohit Jagati (Nainital) 6-4
  • Rajesh Kumar defeated Mohan Singh Bisht 6-0
  • Kanchan Lohani defeated Jai Singh Negi 7-6
  • Devendra Singh Bisht defeated Virendra Sah 6-0
  • Amar Jagati (Nainital) defeated Himanshu Tiwari (Haldwani) 6-1

Singles – 55+ Years

  • Harish Prasad defeated Vivek Agarwal 6-0
  • D.S. Rawat defeated Lalit Belbal 6-4
  • R.S. Mehta defeated Basant Joshi 6-0

Team Championship – Doubles

  • Haldwani Red defeated Chunakhan 3-0
  • Ramnagar defeated Haldwani Blue 3-0
  • Rudrapur defeated Ramnagar 2-1

Highlights of the Day

Rajat Kumar Sati and Devendra Singh Rawat impressed with their backhand shots, Amar Jagati’s flat shots stood out, while Manas Tiwari’s pace-generated strokes, volleys by Sumit Goyal, Devendra Singh Bisht, and Rajesh Kumar, and the serves by Asim Baig and Mohit Singh Rathore drew particular attention.

DTA Treasurer Rajat Sati stated that if rain does not interrupt, all matches will be completed on schedule.

Tomorrow, the singles and doubles matches will begin at 7:00 AM sharp as part of the second day’s schedule.
