Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh Calls for Value-Based and Innovative Higher Education,
Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh participated in the concluding session of the two-day “Chintan Shivir” organized by the Higher Education Department at a hotel on Rajpur Road today. The camp brought together senior officials from higher education departments across the country, vice chancellors of various universities, and eminent educationalists.Addressing the closing session, the Governor said that the “Chintan Shivir” provided a meaningful platform for policy formulation, reform, and innovation in the field of higher education. He emphasized that education is not merely the dissemination of knowledge but a powerful medium for character building, perspective development, and nation-building.Highlighting India’s immense potential in its youth power, the Governor said that youth is the nation’s greatest asset, and universities bear the responsibility to channel their energy, enhance their skills, and align their capabilities toward national development. He urged universities to ensure that students receive not only knowledge but also imbibe values, responsibility, and a constructive outlook toward life.The Governor stressed the importance of quality education, innovation, and research as the key priorities in today’s era and called for universities to prepare themselves to meet global standards to make the 21st century “India’s Century.” He also underlined the integration of Indian culture, ethics, and values in higher education so that education becomes a vehicle of life values rather than merely a means of employment.He encouraged universities to focus on skill-based education to enable students to become job creators rather than job seekers. He added that universities should produce youth who are self-reliant, innovative, and socially responsible. The Governor also appealed to all universities to take concrete steps toward creating “Addiction-Free Campuses,” stating that disciplined, healthy, and inspirational campuses are the foundation of excellent education.Governor Singh expressed confidence that this “Chintan Shivir” would bring new thinking, fresh vision, and renewed energy into higher education, and that the ideas and resolutions emerging from it would elevate the quality, relevance, and effectiveness of the education system to new heights.
