Governor Gurmit Singh: Road Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility, Rules are Equal for All”,

Dehradun – Uttarakhand Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) attended a road safety awareness program organized at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Dehradun today. He emphasized that following road safety and traffic rules is the duty of every citizen, especially in hilly areas where road conditions and weather increase the risk of accidents.

Highlighting the dangers of negligent driving, the Governor stressed the need to instill road safety habits in children from the school level itself. He also appealed to the large number of tourists visiting the state to follow local traffic rules, adhere to speed limits, avoid driving under the influence, and give priority to safe driving.

He appreciated the RTO’s initiative of promoting the use of public transport one day every week, which will not only reduce traffic congestion but also help in environmental conservation. On this occasion, drivers with good conduct and “Good Samaritans” who help accident victims were also honored.

A notable aspect of the event was that the Governor renewed his driving license by following all the formalities like any ordinary citizen, without availing any special privileges. He conveyed the message that laws and procedures are the same for everyone, and government services should be transparent, technology-driven, and simple so that every citizen can get their work done without any recommendations or special favors.
