All-Party Meeting in Haldwani Announces Satyagraha Against Bulldozer Action and Alleged Verification Drive
Haldwani, : Under the banner of the Human Rights Protection Campaign, an all-party meeting was held in Haldwani on August 10, with participation from leaders of various political parties and organizations. The main objective of the gathering was to raise voices against recent bulldozer actions and the alleged verification drive, which, according to speakers, have resulted in human rights violations against poor and marginalized communities.
Addressing the meeting, speakers emphasized that every citizen has the fundamental right to live a dignified and respectful life free from discrimination on the basis of caste, religion, language, economic status, or any other grounds. They alleged that instead of safeguarding these rights, the government is depriving the poor of basic necessities such as housing, employment, education, and healthcare.
They stated that under the guise of “beautification” and removing “illegal encroachments,” homes, shops, and slums are being demolished with bulldozers, disproportionately impacting women, children, the elderly, and the sick. Additionally, through the so-called verification drive, migrant laborers from other states are being harassed.
Speakers expressed that such actions raise serious questions about the constitutional guarantee of human dignity and rights. Leaders and social activists present at the meeting announced that they will undertake a Satyagraha to protect the Constitution and human rights.
Notable attendees included Islam Hussain, Bachi Singh, Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Kailash Pandey, R.P. Joshi, Nafees Ahmad Khan, Mukesh Kumar Joshi, Mohan Singh Bisht, Sanjay Kumar Tamta, G.R. Tamta, Talwinder Singh, Mahesh, Kashmir Singh, Pankaj Ambedkar, Narayan Singh, Raghunath Arya, Rita Islam, Harish Lodhi, and Tikaram Pandey, among others.
