Nainital Police’s “Operation Prahar” Cracks Down on Criminals, Boosts Law and Order,,
Nainital Police has intensified its crackdown on criminals and anti‑social elements under “Operation Prahar”, launched on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Manjunath T.C. From 03.04.2026 to 07.04.2026, the district‑wide drive has led to the arrest of seven hardened accused and the district‑banning of two habitual offenders, along with strict action against traffic violations and hotel‑based misconduct.
Seven Wanted/Proclaimed Offenders Arrested
Under the operation, police teams have pulled seven dangerous criminals into custody, including one wanted accused and six proclaimed offenders. Two of them were identified as professional gangsters and were booked under the Gangster Act and subsequently declared “district bannned”, meaning they have been ordered to stay out of the district under strict monitoring.
Verification Drives and Legal Actions
A total of 484 suspicious persons were physically verified across the district to prevent petty crime and social unrest. Under the new criminal law framework, one person was booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and six others under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for various offences. In addition, 111 individuals faced action under the Police Act for offences related to breach of peace and anti‑social behaviour.
Strict Road Safety and Traffic Checks
The traffic wing carried out a major drive against reckless driving and inebriated drivers. Action was taken against 110 vehicles involved in rash driving, drunken driving, use of wrong number plates, or excessively loud honking. Of these, 31 vehicles were seized for serious violations and 13 drivers arrested on the spot. The drive aims to drastically reduce traffic accidents and improve public safety on Nainital roads.
Intensive Checks at Hotels, Dhabas and Public Places
Nainital Police conducted surprise inspections at 243 hotels, dhabas, pubs and bars across the district to check for illegal activities, underage entry, over‑time operation, or use of premises for illicit gatherings. The inspections were part of a broader strategy under “Operation Prahar” to ensure that public spaces do not become hubs of crime or nuisance.
Appeal to the Public
Nainital Police has appealed to the public to help maintain peace and security in the district. Residents are urged to immediately inform the nearest police station or control room if they spot any suspicious person, vehicle, or unusual activity. The district police stressed that public vigilance and cooperation are critical to making Nainital a safer and crime‑free region under the ongoing “Operation Prahar”.
